Exciting things are happening across the GSNN Network. As the school year comes to a close, schools and districts are celebrating progress in sustainability, student leadership, environmental learning, and community action.
Green Woods Charter School
Philadelphia, PA
Green Woods Charter School closed out a successful school year with the establishment and certification of its school facilities arboretum. In addition, the school was named a Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence winner. This recognition highlights Green Woods’ commitment to environmental leadership and sustainability.
Vista Grande High School
Taos, NM
Vista Grande High School ended the year with a 4PBL learning experience focused on local environmental action. During the project, students worked with local experts, completed a community trash audit and clean-up, and removed more than 250 pounds of waste from local side roads. Afterward, they created seed bombs filled with native seeds to disperse throughout the community.
Zuni Public School District
Zuni, NM
In Zuni Public School District, GSNN is supporting work focused on Culture and Climate. Through this partnership, the district is connecting A:Shiwi culture with core social and emotional knowledge and skills. As a result, student ambassador teams now serve at both the high school and middle school as mentors and community leaders.
Loudoun County Public Schools
Loudoun County, VA
Meanwhile, in Loudoun County Public Schools, GSNN is supporting the creation of a Student Sustainability Leadership Council. The council includes nominated students from all 17 LCPS high schools. During the May kickoff event, students explored initiatives aligned with their personal passions and the district’s sustainability framework.
Brooklyn Urban Garden School
Brooklyn, NY
This June, Brooklyn Urban Garden School students hosted their end-of-year Community Action Project Showcase. During the event, students showed how they use the humanities and STEAM to design real-world solutions. Beyond project presentations, guests joined a student-led community market featuring fresh-grown produce.
Together, these Field Highlights show how GSNN partners are advancing sustainability through outdoor learning, student leadership, cultural connection, and community action.
