Plum Landing

Plum Landing (http://pbskids.org/plumlanding/) is an environmental science project developed by WGBH Boston that helps children ages 6-9 develop a love for, and connection to, nature and the environment. The Plum Landing website features games, apps, videos, and hands-on science activities for formal and informal educators that align to the Next Generation Science Standards.

Got Dirt? Garden Toolkit

Recommended by Mary Bohning of the Food and Justice for All program at Harborside Academy, the Got Dirt? Garden Toolkit (www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/physical-activity/foodsystem/gotdirt.htm) was developed by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services Nutrition and Physical Activity program to provide simple, step-by-step plans for starting a school, community, or child care garden.

Got Veggies? Curriculum

Recommended by Mary Bohning of the Food and Justice for All program at Harborside Academy, Got Veggies? (www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/physical-activity/foodsystem/gotveggies.htm) is a garden-based nutrition education curriculum that was developed by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services Nutrition and Physical Activity program with the goal of getting children to eat more fresh fruits and vegetables. The curriculum features seven full lesson plans, a series of shorter garden-based activities, recipes, and tips for cooking and eating from the garden.

Professional Development

Fund for Teachers

Fund for Teachers (www.fundforteachers.org/) provides educators the resources and funding they need to pursue self-designed professional learning experiences. Funding for Teachers grant awards support a variety of projects, all designed to create enhanced learning environments for teachers, their students, and school communities. Since 2001, Fund for Teachers has invested $22 million in nearly 6,000 teachers.

Children’s Environmental Literacy Foundation

The Children’s Environmental Literacy Foundation or CELF (www.celfeducation.org) provides consulting services, training programs, and educational programs for teachers, students, and communities to promote sustainability education in K-12 curriculum, decision-making, civic engagement, community partnerships, and school campus practices. Both standard and customized programs are available.

Grants

Captain Planet Foundation Grants

The Captain Planet Foundation (www.captainplanetfoundation.org) provides grants of up to $2,500 to schools for hands-on environmental projects. Applications are accepted twice a year. The next deadline is September 30, 2015.

Project Learning Tree GreenWorks! Grants

Project Learning Tree (www.plt.org//apply-for-greenworks-environmental-education-grant) offers grants for service-learning projects that improve schools or restore natural habitats. Grants will be awarded up to $1,000. Apply by September 30, 2015.

Elmer’s Teacher Tool Kit Grants

These grants (www.kinf.org/grants), ranging from $100-$500, provide K-12 teachers the means to replicate projects found in the Elmer’s Teacher Tool Kit catalog in their own classrooms. Past grants have funded STEM and environmental projects. Apply by September 30, 2015.

Target Field Trip Grants

The Target Field Trip Grant program (https://corporate.target.com/corporate-responsibility/grants/field-trip-grants) awards K-12 educators grants of up to $700 to fund a field trip for their students to connect their classroom lessons to out-of school experiences. Grant applications will be accepted until 12pm CST on September 30, 2015.
